In the process of learning Web Development
In 2018, there was a total of 23 Million of web developers in the world which had USA as the largest web developer population in the world and the average time people spend with their phone looking a website is 7 hours a day based on hosting tribunal. Therefore, even though there is a lot competition out there for web developers, there is also a high demand for web developers because nowadays, technology has gone from being a utility, to a necessity for the human being. Those facts motivate me but also make me realize that the path of becoming a web developer is going to be hard because I have to learn many skills in the industry but also I have to learn how can I show the world that I’m already prepared for the job industry.
The day I decide I want to start to study web development, I remember I was thinking that web development was one of the coolest career out there because as a web developer I would be able to create one of those web sites I enjoyed so much.
The month I started to study with Flatiron School web development, I remember myself enjoying a lot the class because I was learning a new concept and also I was learning that I could create something that many people can use, meaning that I could make people feel the same way I feel when I visit a enjoyable web site.
The second month at Flatiron studying web development was totally different because I felt I was loosing the race. There was many challenges on this month and also I felt, I didn’t have enough time to complete my assignments because I was learning all this new concepts for the first time and I was trying to implement those concepts in my assignments. One of those challenges was to learn how to get data from an external web (API) because there are many of those API and depending on what I want to do, I can implement a API or I can chose different API in order to do an specific task. Another challenge it was on how to manipulate the data, I was getting from the API because I can store or manipulate the data in a way it looks good for the user.
Many nights passed and without realizing it, I was already reaching the end of the second month. The project of this month arrived and I was scared but also excited because I knew I was going to have fun doing this project but also a lot of headaches. I completed my project and I was so proud of my web site even though I knew it looks terrible but I was so proud because I knew this is something everybody can use even though it doesn’t look good.
Right now I’m going to start my third month studying web development and even though I have learned a lot from the past two month, I know that I have to learn way more because if I want to land a job in this career I better learn as much as I can now that I have mentors who can guide me and help me to identify those things that I need to improve in order to be a successful web developer.
Despite, web development has been a difficult path for me in last two month I believe that if I want to be part of those 23 million developers out there, I need to learn not only how to develop a web site but I also need to learn communication skills which allow me to express myself in a professional manner because probably most web developers who has a job, they are great programmers but they also have learn how to explain their programs. To conclude, I know there is a lot topics that I need to learn as a web developer but if I keep trying and learning not only from internet but also from others. I feel one day, I will be part of one those millions of web developers who contribute to society by making useful programs.
